Beautiful Winter Card with Silent Snowfall DSP

Stampin' Up! card using Silent Snowfall DSP colored with blue with a blending brush and Snowfall Kisses die cuts

I’m getting ready for Stampin’ Up!’s BackStage Leadership Event in Las Vegas (so exciting!), and I wanted to share one of the cards I’ll be using for my next in-person class. It’s a beautiful winter card featuring the Silent Snowfall Designer Series Paper, paired with elements from the Peace on Earth and Snowflake Kisses bundles.

✨ A Closer Look at the Card

This project starts with a Balmy Blue card base—simple, clean, and perfect for a snowy theme. The star of the show is the Silent Snowfall Specialty DSP, a gorgeous 12″ x 12″ embossed paper covered in delicate snowflakes. The texture gives your card depth and elegance without needing an embossing machine, making it ideal for crafters who may not have one yet.

To bring the background to life, I used a Blending Brush and Balmy Blue ink to softly color the Silent Snowfall paper. Holding the brush close to the bristles gives you more control and even pressure. Remember to work in gentle circular motions and test your ink on scrap paper before blending—this helps you achieve that soft, frosty look without harsh lines.

❄️ Layering and Die Cutting

Next comes the detail work! I used a large snowflake corner die from the Snowflake Kisses Dies to create a beautiful cutout in the corner of the colored paper. Pro tip: if you find small pieces getting stuck in your dies, use the Take Your Pick Tool with the brush attachment or even add a piece of wax paper between your cardstock and the die for easy release.

The die-cut panel is then adhered to the card front with liquid glue, applied lightly to avoid any excess seeping out. I love how the Balmy Blue background shows through the snowflake cutout—it adds subtle contrast and depth.

💙 Finishing Touches

For a bit of shimmer, I added a strip of Peaceful Garden Glimmer Paper across the center of the card. It gives just the right amount of sparkle without shedding (a big win for those who are glitter-averse!).

The sentiment, “Peace on Earth,” comes from the Peace on Earth stamp set and is stamped in Balmy Blue on a stitched circle cut with the Stylish Shapes Dies—my absolute go-to set for layering and labels.

Finally, I added three die-cut snowflakes in Basic White, arranged around the sentiment with Mini Dimensionals for subtle lift and texture. A touch of Wink of Stella brushed over the snowflakes adds just a hint of glittery sheen—perfect for winter cards.

🌟 My Tips

  • Use Wax Paper: Place a small sheet between your paper and die for easier release.
  • Keep Tools Handy: The Take Your Pick Tool is perfect for poking out detailed dies.
  • Try Balmy Blue Blending: It adds instant winter charm to your embossed papers.
  • Add Subtle Sparkle: Wink of Stella gives you shimmer without the mess of glitter.
