Stampin' Up! Match Day card with spinning soccer ball

If you love interactive handmade cards, this Match Day spinner soccer card is a fun technique you’ll want to try. In this weekly live cardmaking tutorial, I share how to create a clean and simple card featuring the upcoming Stampin’ Up! Match Day bundle and a playful spinning soccer ball mechanism.

I go live every Wednesday at 5 PM Eastern to share current projects, product news, and practical cardmaking techniques you can use right away. This week’s project was inspired by the excitement around soccer season — and by making a birthday card for my son using the phrase “Let’s Go,” which works for so many occasions.

Below you’ll find the full replay so you can craft along at your own pace.

Match Day Spinner Card Tutorial

This card uses a simple string-based spinner mechanism that allows the soccer ball to rotate when the card is opened or moved. It’s an easy interactive technique that adds movement without complicated tools, making it perfect for beginner and experienced cardmakers alike.

The design is clean, graphic, and ideal for masculine cards, sports fans, birthdays, or scrapbook pages.

Because the Match Day bundle is part of an upcoming Online Exclusives release, this project offers an early look at how the stamps and dies work together.

How the Spinner Mechanism Works

The spinner element is created using a small length of twine secured between the card layers. A die-cut soccer ball is adhered to circles on both sides of the string so the image spins freely.

Key steps include:

  • Cutting a circular window from designer paper
  • Securing twine across the opening with adhesive
  • Re-layering the designer paper to hide the mechanism
  • Attaching die-cut soccer balls front and back
  • Finishing with a bold sentiment and simple embellishments

This technique can be adapted to many themes. Flowers, butterflies, balloons, or seasonal shapes can all be used to create movement on a handmade card.

Why Interactive Cards Work So Well

Interactive cards create a memorable experience for the recipient. Even a simple spinner adds surprise and encourages people to engage with the card.

For this design, the clean layout keeps the focus on the motion while still allowing space for a sentiment and embellishments. It’s especially effective for masculine cards where you may want interest without lots of decorative elements.

Tips for Making This Card

  • Any lightweight string or clear beading thread will work for the spinner
  • Adhesive sheets can simplify attaching detailed die cuts
  • Cover seams with cardstock strips or ribbon for a polished finish
  • Avoid writing directly behind the spinner area inside the card

Once you make one spinner card, the technique becomes easy to repeat for many occasions.
