This week’s Quick Class features a cheerful Balloon Festoon card filled with layered details, bright patterned paper, and simple techniques that make a big impact. If you love birthday cards, celebration cards, or creative ways to use dies and designer series paper, this project is a fun one to try.

In the video replay below, I walk through the card step-by-step and also share a few time-saving die cutting tips that helped me prepare dozens of class kits for my monthly Cards & Company Zoom class.

For this project, I used the Balloon Festoon Bundle along with the Brights Painted Patterns Designer Series Paper in bright coordinating colors including Coastal Cabana, Azure Afternoon, and Granny Apple Green. The layered balloons and striped background create a fresh, happy design that works beautifully for birthdays and celebrations.

One of my favorite things about this card is all the dimension created with simple layering. The mix of patterned papers, popped-up balloon, ribbon, and embellishments gives the finished card a polished look without making it difficult to assemble.

Time-Saving Die Cutting Tips

Since I was preparing supplies for a large class, I shared a couple of tricks during the video that can save a lot of time when working with dies.

Because the balloon die creates solid shapes without intricate cut details, I was able to stack multiple sheets of designer paper together and cut several balloons at once.

I also doubled up the balloon string die cuts by layering leftover strips of white cardstock before running them through the die cutting machine. That allowed me to cut four strings at a time and made prepping class kits much faster.

If you prep multiples of cards or create class kits yourself, these little efficiencies really add up.

The card starts with a standard Coastal Cabana card base layered with white cardstock panels inside and out for easy writing. I added a darker Coastal Cabana two-tone cardstock layer behind the main panel to create extra depth while keeping the overall card lightweight.

The striped designer paper adds movement across the card front, while the layered balloons draw the eye upward. I finished the design with gold striped mesh ribbon and coordinating sequins arranged in a visual triangle using an odd number of embellishments for balance.

These are simple design principles, but they make such a difference in the finished card.
