The excitement of the World Cup has definitely made its way to New Jersey, and this week’s live was inspired by all the soccer fever happening right here in Basking Ridge. With international teams visiting our area and the World Cup Final coming to New Jersey this summer, it seemed like the perfect time to pull out the Match Day Bundle and create some soccer-themed cards.

Soccer Fever Comes to Basking Ridge

Living in New Jersey, we’ve been caught up in the excitement of the World Cup. Brazil and Morocco have both been staying locally, and our community even hosted a watch party for their match, affectionately dubbed the “Battle of Basking Ridge.”

That local excitement inspired me to revisit Stampin’ Up!’s Match Day Bundle and create a series of cards perfect for soccer fans.

Today’s Team USA card was strongly inspired by the wonderful designs of fellow Stampin’ Up! demonstrator Melissa Faust. She created an entire class featuring this bundle, and her creativity sparked my own ideas for adapting the designs.

I wanted to create a card that was:

• Easy to duplicate.
• Perfect for soccer fans.
• Great for birthdays, coaches, players, and World Cup celebrations.

Of course, I had to include classic red, white, and blue for Team USA!

Building the Card

The card starts with a simple Basic White card base layered with Basic Black cardstock.

The Wonderful Match Designer Series Paper creates the look of a soccer goal, while an additional patterned strip adds visual interest across the bottom of the card.

I love offsetting the layers slightly rather than centering everything. It gives the finished card a little extra movement and energy.

One of the highlights of the Match Day Bundle is the jersey die and coordinating stamp.

For Team USA, I stamped and die cut three jerseys in red, white and blue. Layering the center jersey with dimensionals adds depth and creates a focal point for the card.

A fun tip from the live: when using larger stamps, try inking the stamp upside down so you can easily see that you’ve covered the entire image.

The Soccer Ball…

One part of this bundle can be a little confusing.

The die-cut soccer ball outline doesn’t layer directly onto the stamped soccer ball image. Instead, it needs a separate white circle underneath to create the finished look.

I used a circle punch for my sample, but any similarly sized circle die works perfectly.

Adding the black die cut over the white circle creates a realistic soccer ball with plenty of dimension.

Let’s Go!

One of my favorite details on this card is the sentiment.

“Let’s Go!” seemed like the perfect choice for a soccer-themed project. As I shared during the live, it’s also one of my son’s favorite expressions, so it brings back happy memories every time I use it.

The Triple Banner Punch makes it easy to create a polished banner that overlaps several of the card elements, helping tie the entire design together.

To complete the card, I added the Wonderful Stars Puffy Stickers.

The black and white stars balance the design while reinforcing the soccer theme. A few embellishments are all this card needs to finish it off.
