Stampin' Up! Wooly Friends Valentine's card with red and white strips behind an adorable sheep

Valentine’s cards don’t have to be complicated to be cute, and this Wooly Friends card proves it. With soft patterns, simple layers, and a sentiment that’s just plain fun, this design comes together quickly while still feeling special. In this post, I’m sharing how this “You’re Simply Fab-Ewe-Lous” Valentine’s card was made during my Quick Class, along with tips you can use to recreate the look or adapt it with supplies you already have on hand.

The star of today’s project is the Woolly Friends bundle. This set includes a sweet little sheep with mix-and-match pieces, two-step tulips (which are very on-trend in the new catalog), and charming accessories like a bow and cowbell. The coordinating builder punch makes it easy—and fun—to put all the pieces together. Builder sets like this are perfect for adding personality to your cards, and this one has quickly become a favorite.

For this card, I started with a red card base, folded in half and creased well with a bone folder. I added a layer of Basic White to both the inside and the outside of the card—this simple step helps everything pop and gives the design a clean, finished look.

To create the background, I used the Love Notes Designer Series Paper along with the Three Banner Punch. A little trick I shared during the live: by cutting narrow strips and punching only the center banner shape, you can stretch your patterned paper much further. I punched several banners in coordinating designs and layered them vertically with small gaps between each one to create a playful, eye-catching background.

This patterned banner background makes the card feel special, but it’s also easy to swap in different papers if you want to turn this into a non-Valentine card.

A Builder Punch Tip: Masking for Perfect Placement

When working with builder punches, I almost always create a mask, and this card is a great example of why.

I punched the sheep shape once with the Wooly Friends Builder Punch from dark cardstock and added a small piece of washi tape as a handle. This mask makes it much easier to see exactly where to stamp the sheep’s body and head on white cardstock. After stamping with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, I removed the mask, slid the paper into the punch, and punched all the pieces at once—perfectly aligned and stress-free.

This is a great technique if you’ve ever struggled with lining up builder images.

To ground the sheep and keep him from looking like he’s floating, I die-cut a circle from Real Red cardstock using the Stylish Shapes Dies. I added the circle to the card front with dimensionals, then adhered the sheep’s body with regular adhesive and popped the head up with a dimensional for a little extra personality (I like to give it a slight “jaunty” angle).

The sentiment, “You’re Simply Fab-Ewe-Lous,” was stamped on Basic White and punched using another banner shape. I tucked it slightly under the sheep to soften the edges and keep the layers cohesive.

No card is complete without a few embellishments. For this design, I used the Strawberry Slush & Pretty in Pink Gems, choosing clear ones for a subtle sparkle. I added one larger gem and two smaller ones—just enough shine to catch the light without overpowering the design.

Watch the replay:

While this card works perfectly as a Valentine thanks to the color palette and patterned paper, it can easily be adapted for birthdays, encouragement, or just-because cards. Simply swap out the paper or sentiment and you have a completely different look.

This is one of the cards we’ll be making in my Stamp-a-Stack class, where you’ll create multiple cards and build up your stash in one fun, relaxed session.

If you watched the live, I’d love to hear what you thought—and if you didn’t, the replay is available so you can craft along anytime. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think of the Woolly Friends bundle or how you’d use this card in your own stamping.
