This week in my Quick Class Live, I used the Petals of Beauty bundle to create a handmade card using simple techniques, layered design, and coordinated colors. This project is ideal for cardmakers who enjoy clean and simple styles with elegant details. If you enjoy clean and simple cardmaking with layered details and soft color combinations, this project is for you.
About This Card Design
This card features the Petals of Beauty bundle, which includes a floral stamp set and coordinating dies. I’ve been reaching for this bundle often because it’s versatile, easy to use, and creates stunning results without being complicated.
The focus of this project is:
- Two-step stamping for flowers and leaves
- Coordinating colors that blend beautifully
- A simple background technique that adds texture without extra layers
Card Base and Layers
The card base is Coastal Cabana, folded in half and creased with a bone folder for a clean finish. Inside the card, I added a slightly smaller layer of Basic White cardstock. I intentionally used the same size white layer for both the inside and outside of the card to make class prep easier and less confusing.
Using consistent layer sizes is a small system that makes teaching and stamping in a group much smoother.
Stamping the Floral Background
To create the floral background, I started with Pool Party ink for the base layer of the flowers. At first, this stamping looks very light, but it’s designed that way.
The Petals of Beauty stamps are two-step stamps, and the designer intentionally added a small alignment guide (a tiny “mountain” shape) to help line up the detail stamp perfectly.
Once the base layer was stamped, I added the detail layer using Coastal Cabana ink. The result is a soft, layered floral look that feels fresh and coordinated.
Adding Leaves and Detail
The leaves were stamped using a similar two-step approach:
- Base layer stamped first
- Detail layer added with Granny Apple Green to create veins and dimension
Don’t worry about stamping perfectly or staying inside the edges. Letting images go off the edge of the cardstock adds movement and interest to the design.
Embossing After Stamping – A Simple Trick
Once all the stamping was complete, I ran the cardstock through the Beautiful Pattern embossing folder.
This step is important: emboss after stamping, not before. Embossing first can prevent your stamped images from transferring cleanly. Embossing afterward adds subtle texture while keeping the stamped images crisp.
This is an easy trick that adds a lot of visual interest without extra supplies.
Adding the Accent Layer
Behind the stamped layer, I added Lemon Lime Twist cardstock. This color can feel bold, but when used sparingly, it adds just the right amount of contrast.
Before adhering this layer to the card, I die cut two leafy sprigs from the center using one die from the Petals of Beauty coordinating die set. Because the center would be covered, this allowed me to save cardstock and avoid waste.
Finishing Touches
The die-cut sprigs were adhered diagonally across the card front to add dimension and movement. I used a small amount of liquid adhesive rather than dimensionals to keep the layers flat.
For the sentiment, I used a label cut with the Nested Labels dies and stamped “Grateful for You” from the Layers of Beauty stamp set in Coastal Cabana ink.
The sentiment was popped up with dimensionals to draw the eye to the center of the card.
Ribbon and Final Assembly
To finish the card, I added a simple bow using Summer Splash ribbon. While this ribbon has since retired, any similar coordinating ribbon would work beautifully.
I like to tie bows directly from the spool so I can adjust or retie without wasting ribbon. The bow was attached using a glue dot for quick and secure placement.
A Popular Class Favorite
This Petals of Beauty card was one of the most popular designs from my Stamp-a-Stack class, and it’s easy to see why. The colors, texture, and simple techniques come together to create a card that feels special without being complicated.
